J&G Coughtrie has been making trusted, timeless and enduring heritage lighting in Glasgow since 1939.
Its original bulkheads, swan neck lights, pendants and industrial fittings were built for places where lighting had to work hard, last well and look right doing it.
Today, J&G Coughtrie continues to make new and remastered lighting for homes, hospitality, commercial interiors, heritage buildings and working environments across the UK.

Every fitting has a different future. J&G Coughtrie starts by understanding what is there before deciding whether to refurbish, restore or retrofit.
For original J&G Coughtrie fittings that are sound, but need repair, refinishing, LED conversion or renewed components.
Best suited to: Bulkheads, pendants, wall lights, corridor lights and exterior fittings already earning their keep.
For chandeliers, lanterns, wall brackets and architectural lights that belong to the building and deserve to return to service.
Best suited to: One-off historic fittings where replacement would mean loss. Which, frankly, it rather often does.
For projects needing modern lighting performance without spoiling the character of the place.
Best suited to: Public heritage sites, museums, civic buildings, estates and working buildings with compliance needs.
Method
Every Reborn Services project begins with the same principle: understand the fitting before deciding its future.
Assess what is there, what matters and what is possible. J&G Coughtrie examines the fitting, its condition, construction, setting and intended use.
Broken parts can be remanufactured. Glass can be replaced. Wiring can be renewed. LED technology can be integrated.
Restoring a light fitting is much easier when you understand how to make one.
The aim is not simply to repair the fitting. The aim is to see it back where it belongs.
Our Principles
Authenticity, sustainability and performance do not have to pull in different directions. Done properly, heritage lighting can preserve the character of a building, reduce unnecessary waste and meet modern expectations without losing what made it worth saving.
Original lighting carries proportion, patina, material character and memory. It shapes how the building is experienced.
Keeping what exists avoids unnecessary waste and reduces the need to manufacture replacements. A beautiful decision can also be the sensible one.
LED efficiency, modern wiring and controls can often be introduced without losing the fitting. Modern performance, taught some manners.

At Inveraray Castle, a historic chandelier was entrusted to J&G Coughtrie for restoration. The brief was clear.
Do not replace it. Restore it.
The chandelier was dismantled, cleaned, rewired, repaired, reassembled, tested and fitted with warm, efficient LED lamps.
Not remade. Restored.
Case Studies
From civic interiors to working heritage vessels, Reborn is for places where lighting cannot simply look the part. It must belong, perform and endure.
Existing luminaires were stripped, refreshed, resprayed and upgraded with energy-efficient LEDs.
Robust Coughtrie bulkheads support a historic vessel exposed to weather, movement and time.
